Poland

 Poland

Poland is an european country east of /german. Its population is 37,854,383.

The capital city of Poland is Warsaw. It has suffered many wars including being destroyed in world war 2 But the Polish people returned to rebuild it. The Polish flag is white and red. The white represents peace and the red represents struggles for freedom.

In Poland 85% of the population are Catholic. The Catholic faith is important to family life. There are 2 famous saints from Poland. Maximillian Kolbe sacrificed his life of a young man with a family while he was in a German prison camp. He was put in a cell with 9 others and prayed sung but they would not die. So the Germans  gave them a poisonous needle into them so they would die. John Paul 2 grew up in Poland during the war. He became the first Polish Pope. He visited the cell where Maximillian Kolbe died. He is well known for his reminder to respect all human life.

Lots of people in Poland work on farms. They are usually small family farms. They grow grains, beetroots, potatoes and have lots of pigs and other animals.

Even though it's been many years since the war, Poland is still trying to rebuild their country and economy.

Town Trip Recount Max BELL

This week we have been learning about Margaret Mahy Playground for a Reading.

Margaret Mahy-  We got to do a scavenger hunt of Māori designs. Then we got to draw the  designs.

Mats and Tuna- All of the mats had a different meaning. some meant food and family. We also got to feed the tuna.

Waka - The Waka was very fun. We got to paddle the boat and we got to do a chant.

Victoria Square - Māori people had a market in Victoria Square and they used to sell salmon.

My favourite part of the trip was the Waka because we got to steer and paddle the boat.

Something I learnt was that in Victoria Square they had a big table that was used for serving food.

The thing I found the most interesting was that every mat meant something different like food and family.

This trip has helped me with my PBL becauseI I learnt lots of different facts about the tribe and Margaret Mahy Playground.
